The Stavropol State Medical Academy as founded in 1938. At present after more than six decades, it is the largest educational, scientific and methodological center of medicine in the North Caucasus. About 3300 Russian and more than 200 foreign students from 18 countries of the world are trained at its four faculties: General Medicine, Pediatrics, Dentistry and Higher Nursing Education. In total, there are 7 faculties in the Academy, including the stated above, the Preparatory Course, the Postgraduate Faculty and also the Faculty of Improvement of Professional Skills of teachers of medical schools and colleges.

 

 

Our Graduates, Highly skilled experts, who work in deferent places of our country and abroad, are the trademark of the Academy. Many of them head scientific research institutes, laboratories, faculties and higher schools. More than 25 thousand Physicians have graduated from the Academy during the years of its existence.

The Academy has a scientific library, which numbers about 350000 copies of books and periodicals; it has its own editions: the Academy's newspaper "Medicus" and scientific-practical magazine.

Since 1961, our Academy has been training national medical staff for Asia. Africa, Latin America and the CIS countries.

 

The students' life is not limited by lecture-rooms, laboratories and libraries. The Academy has 4 students' hostels with 1826 places, a sport complex with a swimming pool, gyms, and saunas. The Academy has its own sports camp on the Black Sea Coast of the North Caucasus. The students' KVN team has been well-known in the Stavropol Territory for a long time.

The Stavropol State Medical Academy belongs to 5 leading higher medical institutions of Russian Federation and has taken the 2nd place among the higher education institutions of South Federal District of the country. The activity of the Academy has been marked by high International Award "Earthmaker' (defining a person of the Planet), which testifies belonging to a community of the world leaders of various industries, science, cultures and national health services.
  The Academy was awarded with the Diploma and the Gold Medal winning the competitions 'The European Quality" in the nomination of "100 Best Higher Schools", the Kannes Silver Medal "For Dynamic Development" and the title "Flagman of XXI Century", the Gold Medal of International Biography Centre and the Gold Diploma of World Sciences International Forum.
 
The Faculty of General Medicine, the progenitor of our Academy, is the biggest one, where over 1500 students are trained. The faculty trains physicians in three specialties: internal diseases, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, General practitioners are trained for six years. for studying clinical disciplines (Internal, surgical , eye, skin, infections diseases, etc.).
 
The Faculty of Pediatrics trains students in two specialties: pediatrics and children's surgery. Training lasts for 6 years. It is organised in such a manner that literally from the first days of study in the higher schools students receive knowledge in development and growth of children's organisms to feel the profession of pediatricians. The Faculty of Dentistry trains dentists. The duration of the course at the faculty is 5 years. Graduates of the faculty are prepared for independent work in any of five dental specialties.
  The admission to the Higher Nursing Education Faculty is carried out for persons with the complete secondary medical education, having the experience of work in the specialty not less than 3 years. The correspondence course of training lasts 5 years. The graduates get the qualification of a manager.

The Post Graduate Faculty is one or the largest in Russia and it  has a number of unique departments. Over 3000 physicians in 32 specialties are trained yearly, improving their specialty qualification.

The Faculty of Professional Skills Improvement is engaged in retraining of teachers of medical schools and colleges from all over the country. 

The Outstanding scientists, who have made a great contribution to the Russian Medical science , were at the sources of formation and development of the Stavropol State Medical Academy. Since 2000, the curriculum in all specialties provide training of physicians of general practice.

The pride of the Academy is highly skilled scientific and pedagogical staff. The Academy has 70 chairs with more than 84 Doctors of Science (16.4%) and 362 teachers with scientific degrees and ranks (70%). 78% of teachers of clinical chairs have the highest and the first qualifying category. Out of total number of teachers, 23 are members of various academies and of the Russian Academy of Medical Science, 43 Honored Physicians of the Russian Federation, 4 Honored Higher School Workers.
 







The training is carried out according out to the curriculum that are specially adapted to the operating conditions of the native land and authorised by the Ministry of Health of Russia. The Academy has been included in the list of 12 medical educational institutions of Russia recognized by the Medical Council of India. 

High creative potential of teaching staff of the Academy, modern laboratory equipment allows to carry out the actual scientific researches, which have great value for practical public health service. scientific investigations of higher school scientists have been repeatedly submitted to the congresses, symposia of Russia and abroad and have obtained a wide international recognition. Our professors' names are included in the list of "100 Leading Scientists of the World" and in the directory of "Who's Who in a World Science" . The Academy is also included in the official list of "Study Abroad". "International Book of Universities" and "The World of Learning".


 

The Stavropol State Medical Academy has 4 educational buildings, 3 dentistry out-patient departments and clinics of eye microsurgery, of borderline psychic disorders, of vertbroneuology and manual medicine.

The majority of clinical departments are located on the grounds of the regional  and city medical institutions and they are equipped with modern diagnostic and medical facilities.

There are all conditions for successful mastering the profession of a medical doctor in the Academy. Students independently carry out laboratory and clinical researches and use modern means of training and manuals. The Academy has and access to the internet and well - equipped scientific library.
