St. Petersburg I. P. Pavlov State Medical University was established in 1887. Thousands of well-reputed physicians have graduated from this university and have become pioneer in the world of medicine. The university holds the V th position in the world according to the WHO and UNESCO ranking of all the medical college in the world.

This university consists of many number of clinics and more than 43 big hospitals for teaching purpose for its different departments. Among these hospitals are the first specialized hospital in Europe for infectious diseases (Potkin hospital), the first hospital in Russia for peadiatrics (Philasov Hospital) and the newly constructed Mars Hospital.

The university contains a central laboratory for scientific research. All clinics and health centers at the university are equipped with the most modern medical equipments.

The university has a medical library, which is considered the biggest in the country, where it contains 9,00,000 books and then 3500 unique medical books. The University has relation ties with more than 17 universities and medical institutes in America, France, Germany, Italy, Holland, Britain, Finland, Sweden, and Denmark.
