Moscow State Aviation Institute (MAI) is one of the largest higher technical universities in Russia. It was founded in 1930 on the basis of several colleges involved in aircraft technologies in different universities of the country. Since then approximately one hundred thousand students have graduated from MAI. Practically there is no aviation organization in Russia where you could not meet a MAI graduate. Besides it includes Research Institute of the Applied Mechanics and Electrodynamics, Research Institute of Low Temperatures, design bureaus: "Light Aircraft", "Thermoplane" (airships), "Iskra" (small space satellites) and others. MAI has also regional branches "Vzlet" (near Volgograd town), "Voskhod" (Baikonur), "Space Engineering" and "Space Engines" (Khimky town), "Strela" (Zhukovsky town), department in Taganrog town, educational and research airfield at Alferievo place (120 km from Moscow). Special experimental factory works as an industrial branch of institute. MAI takes part in two joint educational and research centers: one - with Russian Academy of Science (RAS) Mechanical Engineering Institute, and other - with RAS Institute of Mechanics.

MAI has state accreditation for training engineers almost in forty specialities (sometimes each with several narrow specialization) as well as for candidate-of-Science (doctorate) post-graduate studentship in more than sixty specialties. The Aviation, Rocket and Space Technologies in Russia have always been well comparable with the highest world level. To some extent it is due to higher technical education system. The MAI boasts of its laboratories equipped with most up-to-date samples of airplanes (the Su-27 included), aircraft engines, space vehicles, control systems, avionics, radioelectronics etc., as well as with former ones which are of technical and design interest. In this respect the MAI is second to none of the universities in Western countries.

Moscow Aviation Institute is widening cooperation with foreign universities, research institutions and firms. It is a member of IAF and supports studenVexpert exchange programs with France, Finland, Germany, Great Britain, Norway, USA, India, Brazil and other countries.

Teaching at the institute is conducted in the Russian language. Russian language classes for foreign students in pre-institute college make adaptation easier for them.

Normally the duration of education and training at the MAI amounts to 5 years and 6 months, for the full time students, and 5 years and 10 months, for the part time students.

Students who have completed their studies and defended diploma projects (or diploma work) are granted the qualification of a specialist and given a state diploma.

MPEI  is of the same age as of Russian Power Engineering.

St. Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering (SPbGASU) is the oldest Civil Engineering higher educational establishment in Russia. Its history goes back to 1832 when it was founded as Civil Engineering School on the Emperor Nikolas I edict. During more than 170 year University history it was renamed several   times.  Building School (1842), Civil Engineering Institute (1882). Leningrad Institute of Municipal Building (1930), Leningrad Civil Engineering Institute (1941), St. Petersburg Civil Engineering Institute (1992). The University bares its present name since June 21st1993.

SPbGASU is a state owned higher educational establishment. Russian Federation State Higher Education Committee is the founder of the University.

The main fields of the University activity are: training specialists at BEng and MEng levels as well as graduated engineers and architects, scientific and teaching personnel (phD and DSc levels); their continuing education and professional development; fundamental and applied scientific rsearch; spreading knowledge in science and engineering. environment. economics and other fields.

The University offers courses of studies at 4 full-time Institutes as well as at the evening and correspondence departments and the faculty of advanced training. It possesses an extensive portfolio of Postgraduate and research degree (Ph.D and DSc) programmes. Its staff and resources provide support for the Advanced Training Centre for Automobile Transport and Highway System Specialists.

The academic personnel at 48 SPbGASU departments include 570 lectureres and instructors, among them 5 correspondent members of the Russian Academy of Architecture and Civil Engineering Science, 42 acting and correspondent members of other academic of sciences, 86 DSc, professors, and 338 Candidates of sciences (PhD), assistant professors. Administration and auxiliary staff consist of more than 1000 people and ensure the necessary teaching levels. The student body totals 6000 students.

Scientific and Research

SPGASU provides the work of 11 Scientific councils on phD and DSc levels. It is a noted Russian centre in all areas of industrial and civil engineering, architecture, motor-transport and other fields.

Since 1946 SPbGASU has been training specialists for foreign countries. At present 300 foreign students and postgraduates are trained from 50 countries, mainly from Middle East and Africa.

Foreign students

Foreign students are trained at the institutes and postgraduate departments in the same major fields that Russian citizens are.

The course of studies for foreign students consists of:

For BEng (Hons) Level: 4.5 years - in architecture, 4 years - in other fields.

SPbGASU offers an efficient Russian language coures. Its alternative curricula meet the student’s requirements and offer a choice from several weeks intensive courses to a one-year course. The students are mostly from Germany, Finland, France, Great Britain and other European countries.

The University international activity is realised mainly through the direct agreements with foreign universities from 8 countries (Germany, Finland, Great Britain, China, and others). According to this agreement the universities exchange teachers, carry out joint research and design projects, held summer architect schools.

The university is provided with modern equipments for training specialists and carrying out research programmes at the up-to-date level.

Annually computer centres language classes and research laboratories are supplied with modern equipments. Accommodation is provided in two students’ hostels and a hotel complex. There are serveral canteens at the University’s disposal. The University is proud of its library dating back to 1832. The library collection includes more than a million book stock and journals. The library carefully saves original drawings by noted architects, such as A.N. Voronikhin, K.I. Roi, V.P. Stasov, O. Monferand.

The University posses a sport club, a museum, a first-aid station, preventorium and recreation facilities on the shore of the Lake Ladoga.

The University offers a variety of courses leading to Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and engineering degrees. Unique modern equipment and computer technology are used in training. The most popular speciality among foreign students is 1310. Graduates of the University can provide technical maintenance of International airlines flights and work as engineer of the airport equipment. Russian language courses, a Preliminary Preparation Department, postgraduate and doctorate courses are available.

The Preliminary Preparation Department provides teaching of basic subjects. Together with the programme of Russian language studies students are given training in mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering drawing, biology and informatics. The programme offered by this department lasts one year.

The University is situated in the historical centre of the city. All students are provided with a comfortable room in the hostel.

The Taganrog State University of Radio Engineering (former Taganrog Radio Engineering Institute) is one of the leading engineering training facilities in Russia. The University was established in 1952 in Taganrog, an industrial, commerce and port city in the South of Russia. The city itself was founded by Peter the Great in 1698 as a fortress on the Sea of Azov near the mouth of Don River. Closeness to the sea, fresh air, a lot of sunshine and cheap food and public transportation provide excellent conditions for living, studying and recreation.

TSURE today is a young, fast developing and very specialized institution of higher education, its academic and research activities are mainly concentrated in Telecommunication, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science and related areas. The University comprises seven colleges, Research Institute of Multiprocessor Computing Systems, three design bureaus and an experimental plant. The total enrollment to the TSURE is close to 7500.

TSURE is a member of the Association of Russian Technical Universities and a member of the Association of Engineering Education of the Russian Federation. Among other sixteen famous Russian universities TSURE is a member of IAU - Unesco based International Association of Universities.
